2019: My Ball, My Style

As 2018 comes to a close, we at the WFFA look back to some of the special moments that made it one of the best years of Freestyle ever and then look forward to some exciting times ahead.

Record numbers of athletes attended Super Ball and the European Championships, whilst in Africa we finally launched the Continental Open with a huge production in Nigeria. Erlend Fagerli from Norway produced a record breaking season of victories, winning the Norwegian, European, Super Ball and Red Bull Street Style competitions in the same calendar year. Prior to this, only Andrew Henderson had come close to such a year, when he won 3 major titles in 2014.
Female participation in freestyle is rapidly growing and therefore 2019 will bring a new series of events both on and offline to embrace and assist further growth. Poland has dominated the major victories of the year with Aguska Mnich winning at Red Bull Street Style and Kalina Matysiak taking the Super Ball crown.

After many close attempts from various corners of the world, we are delighted to acknowledge that Luca Chiarvesio from Italy has achieved the first official 4-revolution move… we all wait with much anticipation to see this live at an event one day soon.

The WFFA grew the network up to 130 countries of the world and in during 2018 assisted in the creation of over 60 events, spanning 6 continents. This was made possible largely thanks to partnerships with DAZN, goal.com, Street Soccer International and Red Bull.

The plans for 2019 include an increase in the number of national championships, another season of Red Bull Street Style (expected announcement of the World Finals destination in March 2019), Panther Ball continues to grow into a more International open event, continued plans for events that reward the more artistic and creative side of freestyle and a membership club for all athletes and fans will be launched, rewarding everyone in the freestyle community.

Here’s to a big 2019 ahead… bring your own style… #myballmystyle #allyouneedisaball
