THE SEARCH FOR THE BEST BRAZILIAN FREESTYLER IS ON!
Brazil’s top freestyle football players will gather in the city of Porto Alegre on November 15 for the national final of the Red Bull Street Style, with an unrivaled prize on the line: the honor of representing the “jogo bonito” (“beautiful game”) on a global stage.
The 16 most skilled players in the country will be the stars in a battle of style and ball control, with the winner earning the right to represent Brazil in the 2010 Red Bull Street Style World Final, which will take place in South Africa shortly before the FIFA World Cup.
Three regional qualifiers precede the national Brazilian final. The call is out for football artists from Sao Paulo, Recife and Belo Horizonte to show their best moves – each qualifier will select two players for the Porto Alegre final. Other 10 spots will be decided via videos sent by the candidates to the event’s official website. Players from the entire country can already submit their videos at www.redbullstreetstyle.com
In usual Red Bull Street Style manner, the battles will consist of three minutes, two players and one ball on direct duels until only one last man stands. The boldest tricks, the most impressive style and the top creativity will earn maximum points to impress the judges.
And, as in “regular” football, Brazil has already developed a Red Bull Street Style tradition: in 2008, the country held the first-ever RBSS World Final in Sao Paulo. The title went to France’s Arnaud “Sean” Garnier, but the gold-and-green player, Murilo Pitol, took a solid third place.
