DANISH DYNAMITE IN THE WORLD FINALS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Danish dynamite in Red Bull Street Style world finals in South Africa. Red and white dynamite. The popular slogan from when the Danish national team thrilled the world during the FIFA World Cup in Mexico in 1986 is back.
Saturday the first ever Danish Red Bull Street Style event took place in the urban surroundings of Copenhagen Skatepark in the heart of the small kingdom’s capital.
Nine freestyle footballers showed up for the first ever Red Bull event in Denmark as they were all wishing to win the honour of representing the red and white Danish flag in South Africa in April.
But one guy was outstanding through out the battles. 18-year old Brian Mengel already known from his tricks and skills on several national television live shows battled with great attitude towards the crowd, huge experience in front of the referees and with an amazing sense of creative style with the ball. In the final Brian Mengel even had time to start jumping ropes to underscore his dominance in the world of Danish freestyle soccer.
The judges team were made up of Danish international and FC Copenhagen soccer player, Martin Vingaard, German Red Bull Street Style champion, Timo Löhnenbach, and Danish breakdancer Sune Pejtersen. All three referees agreed on the final decision as it was beyond doubt that Brian Mengel was the best player in the finals.
“Well, I was hoping I could win but now I’m here with this great prize in my hands and I don’t know how to express my self”, said the young winner of the national finals in Copenhagen shortly after beating Tobias Larsen in the final.
Brian Mengel hurried back home as he already started training for the world finals in South Africa. Towards the Danish chances in the final Red Bull battles the skilled Dane showed a bit of attitude:
“I really think that some of the guys out there are amazing freestylers but you know what? I have more than a month to practice and I can assure you all out there that I’ll do what it takes to honour my country’s flag in the finals”, said the newly crowned Danish champion in Red Bull Street Style.
RED AND WHITE DYNAMITE!
