CHRIS NJOKWANA'S TAKE ON THE KZN QUALIFIER

After the KZN qualifier last weekend, it was time for Red Bull Street Style Ambassador, Chris Njokwana, to head for the bright lights of Gauteng for the very last fortnight of the Red Bull Street Style Roadshows. We gave him a call to hear what he has to say about the KZN qualifier last weekend.

So far every province has had some awesome talent on display, and it sounds like KZN was no exception. “I was honestly amazed at the talent. There were a few of the same people we saw only a year ago, and wow man, I couldn’t believe how much they had improved. There are some fast learners.”

Perhaps the fastest learner Chris has ever met was 12 year Sanele. “There was this young kid, Sanele, he’s the younger bro of one of the guys who qualified. Man, this kid could do a Touzani. That’s a trick that I took eight months to learn! And there he was, landing that trick after, like, one week! I’m keeping an eye on that kid. Give him a year and I’ll have to watch my back!”

Something else that Chris was really excited to see was the first female freestyler to enter the Red Bull Street Style 2009 qualifiers. “I was so glad to see Fezeka Mbambo at the qualifier. First girl this year! She made history man! She’s a soccer player so her ground moves were hot, but the competition was tough that day so she didn’t get through. I hope she practices some more tricks and comes back stronger next year. I’m putting a message out here – I want to see a girl in the final, maybe even winning the final! Why not?”

Chris’ friend and travel companion, General, was going to enter last weekend but decided last minute to wait until the Gauteng qualifier instead. Chris says, “General is good. I’m confident that he can qualify wherever he enters.” General adds “I come from Joburg, so last minute I decided it was only right that I qualify there too.”

Check back on Friday to find out how the Joburg roadshow is going for Chris and General. In the meantime why not watch highlights from the KZN action, and see what the guys got up to on the KZN roadshow below:
