With the Red Bull Street Style National Final just around the corner, we caught up with Chris Njokwana, Red Bull Street Style’s Ambassador, to find out how the first week of roadshows went in Gauteng.

“There has been a huge interest in Jozzie so far. Freestyle is very popular here; I’d say it’s more popular here than in any other province. And there is some hot talent hey.” Chris and his travel companion, General, have been rocking some shows at high schools around Gauteng this week. “There’s this one kid we found at a high school in Kempton Park - he’s young, about sixteen, his sit downs were phenomenal man. Such a unique style. I’m very, very keen for him to show his face at the regional qualifier on the 24th, I hope he makes it.”

Chris thinks that it’s all going to come down to individual style and performance personality at the National Final, “We’re seeing a lot of the same tricks, but it’s the way that the guys perform them that’s unique. A lot of the guys have their own flavour, that’s what’s going to count in the final.”

Chris and General are taking the roadshows to Jozzie city centre this afternoon, “I’m looking forward to hitting the CBD. I think the interest is going to be crazy in the city. Joburg seems to the hub of SA soccer these days, so people are more aware of freestyle here. It’s crazy man, there are so many guys here who are experts in freestyle. Lots of hot, hot talent.”

General is especially interested in what talent is out there because he is entering the regional qualifier on the 24th October. Chris says he has his fingers crossed for him, “General is good. He’s confident. But not over confident, he is going to do his best on the 24th. We’ll see!”

Chris is looking forward to the National Final on the 25th October at the Maponya Mall, “I’m psyched man. It’s going to be hectic. I’m tired, the roadshows have been taxing, but I’m bringing my game. I’m going to do my best. We’ll see.”

Make sure you go and support Chris at the National Final in Gauteng on the 25th October at the Maponya Mall.

Check back next week to find out how the rest of the Gauteng roadshows go for Chris and General
