THE LAST FEW DAYS OF THE RED BULL STREET STYLE ROADSHOWS ARE HERE!
There are only a few days left of the Red Bull Street Style roadshows before the last regional qualifier in Gauteng on the 24 October at Maponya Mall. After that, it’s time for the South Africa’s top freestyle soccer talent to battle it out at the national finals. We chatted to Red Bull Street Style ambassador, and last year’s winner, Chris Njokwana, to find out how it’s going in Joburg.
There are only a few days left of the Red Bull Street Style roadshows before the last regional qualifier in Gauteng on the 24 October at Maponya Mall. After that, it’s time for the South Africa’s top freestyle soccer talent to battle it out at the national finals. We chatted to Red Bull Street Style ambassador, and last year’s winner, Chris Njokwana, to find out how it’s going in Joburg.
“Jozi has been so, so cool. We’ve performed all over the place: Kempton Park, East Rand, Boksburg, Alberton, Mamelodi, Pretoria and, today, Soweto. We even got to perform at the Orlando Pirates Stadium. The crowds were the biggest ever! There was this cool band playing, the atmosphere was rocking. It was awesome.”
But it hasn’t all been easy for Chris, “I give my best for every show, but it’s demanding on my body. Unfortunately I injured my heel during a performance this week; it was quite bad for two days, but it’s not swollen anymore. It’s cool now. It’s not going to slow me down in the national final. I’m bringing my A- Game!”
Meanwhile, General is keeping everyone up at night as he trains and rehearses; making sure his performance is top quality for the regional qualifier on the 24th October, “I am practising until late every night. I keep the lights on until about ten, making sure my tricks are perfect.” Perhaps seeing the talent in Jozi has made General a bit nervous? “Yoh! There are some good guys here. This one guy from Kempton Park, his ground moves were hot! It made me scared hey!”
