DAVIDS SENDS DUTCHMAN TO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN SOUTH AFRICA

Football superstar Edgar Davids (NED) was on hand on Wednesday night to select the Dutch freestyle footballer with the honour of representing his country at the Red Bull Street Style 2010 World Finals in Cape Town. The “Vondelkerk” (Church) in the heart of the capital Amsterdam hosted the Dutch National Qualifying Tournament as the 16 best freestyle footballers in the land of tulips and windmills battled it out for the golden ticket to South Africa.

After a series of tight head-to-head battles, it was 28 year-old Daniel Rooseboom (Rotterdam) who proved that he’s got the skills to pay the bills as he defeated Nick Zieren in the Final to fly the flag for the Netherlands against representatives from over 50 other countries at the World Finals in Cape Town on 14 April 2010.

The first ever freestyle football world championships took place in 2008 in the Brazil’s football Mecca of São Paulo. The event was won by current defending champion Sean Garnier from France.

Red Bull Street Style invites the best freestyle footballers on the planet to battle it out head-to-head, with an international panel of judges awarding points in the categories Ball Control, Style in combination with Music. The two athletes have a total of three minutes to impress the judges and progress to the next round.
