A brand new format premiered for the second round of Red Bull Street Style Online World Championship 2020, focusing on musicality. This has been an important attribute for many years in the sport of Freestyle Football- This year’s Red Bull Street Style though is designed to test the most skilful and versatile freestyler out there and therefore it is only right that they are put to the test in the musicality department too.
Musicality is the art of being able to feel the music and perform tricks in perfect time with the sounds. From the big tricks on the drop of the track all the way down to the small intricate moves on the beat. This is a true test of a freestyler’s coordination, control and timing, all while using the music to one’s advantage. Sometimes this is quite challenging to apply deliberately to a normal live competition especially if the freestyler is unfamiliar with music.
Just like Stage 1, another 30 second set was required of the players. Selecting a track from the Red Bull Sound Supply (https://www.redbullsoundsupply.com/)and performing their tricks in perfect cohesion with the music. Some amazing entries were submitted once again, but unsurprisingly it was the Japanese freestylers that had the highest numbers advance to Stage 3. The likes of Yuri Kamalio, Hiro-K and Kazane to name a few, all embodying what Japanese freestyle is all about with fast paced creativity fuelled by the music.
